Myrtle Oak Clinic is a unique multidisciplinary team of clinicians who specialise in the counselling and treatment of individuals (children, adults and families) with difficulties around anxiety, stress, depression, disordered eating practices, body image issues, unhealthy dieting practices and clinical eating disorders.
We offer a multidisciplinary team approach to treatment for people experiencing difficulties, as well as for family and friends who are supporting a loved one through this difficult time. The evidence for treating a wide range of mental health conditions promotes the use of a multidisciplinary approach to treatment as the best way to get results and recovery. Because of the complex nature of mental health issues, such as an eating disorder, it can often mean working with several qualified practitioners. Some people will benefit from stand-alone therapies, which involve working with only one professional, while others will need a multidisciplinary approach with help from multiple professionals. However it is important to remember that there is no single treatment approach that will suit everyone.
We promote a Person-Centred approach to treatment. Person-Centred means that treatment is specifically customised to suit that person’s illness, situation and needs. We focus on recovery for the individual and their specific disorder. We aim to addresses all aspects of the illness: physical, psychological, nutritional, behavioural, social and practical. Putting the needs of the person at the core of all decisions throughout the process of treatment and recovery. We work on building a healthy relationship with food, the mind and body movement. It is important to recognises that progress and recovery takes time and effort, both during and after the treatment process.
We work alongside and together with your GP, paediatrician, psychiatrist or other support professionals and networks to determine what type of treatments will be best.
By offering a range of services such as individual counselling, family therapy, Maudsley based therapy, non-diet nutritional counselling, group education and information evenings we are able to customise our services to get the best results possible for our clients.
All of our health professionals have received extra training in addition their respective university degrees plus have experience in the field of Mental Health and can specifically treat people with clinical eating disorders, disordered eating or body image issues in addition to anxiety, stress and depression.

All about our name: Myrtle Oak Clinic
Myrtle Oak Clinic’s name was chosen for its symbolic nature. The Mytrle Oak is a small, evergreen tree that often grows into unusual, contorted forms due to exposure to natures elements. It possesses a strong regenerative ability making it quick to recovery after devastation, such as a fire. The wood of myrtle oak is linked to folk legends attributing magical powers to bestow love, passion, and fertility upon the users. The acorns from myrtle oak provide an important source of food and nourishment, the nuts contain high carbohydrate, high fat and are eaten by many wildlife. The name also represents courage and power.
