Group Focused Psychological Sessions – Mind, Body, Nutrition Connect groups.
Myrtle Oak Clinic offers a full range of intervention services for our clients. We provide Psychological, Nutrition and Mental Health individual services and now we are running a range of group psychological and nutritional treatment sessions to provide more flexibility, support and to help people to connect with others who are in a similar situation to offer peer support and mutual encouragement while working towards recovery.
Our “Mind, Body, Nutrition Connect” groups are beneficial for individuals who are struggling with disordered eating mindsets or clinical eating disorders such as Anorexia, Bulimia or Binge Eating Disorder. If you have poor self-esteem, body image, eating anxiety or just want to improve how you feel about eating these interactive workshops are designed to help each individual explore underlying issues and foster steps towards recovery. Learning to cope and better manage the fear, anxiety, guilt, and shame associated with eating is essential to recovery.
The group empowers each individual to distinguish between the healthy, rational thoughts and the destructive, negative thoughts derived from the eating disorder. Mind, Body, Nutrition Connect groups challenges cognitive distortions while encouraging values based actions, mindfulness and teaches individuals the importance of developing a new perspective on nourishing the body and the power and effectiveness of processing unwanted negative thoughts in a supportive and gentle setting.
Group work encourage individuals to share with others openly and honestly. Building skills in expressing thoughts and feelings by creating a safe environment to openly discuss them. Our groups promote and actively create a non-judgmental attitude toward self and others, providing mutual support between participants via interpersonal communication, and reflective listening. We run closed group sessions in an effort to create a safe and cohesive environment, we do ask that each individual make a commitment to attend the entire six week program with support from personalised workbooks and handouts.
Groups are led by experienced clinician’s providing evidence based therapies, the topics covered may include:
- Techniques for managing anxiety;
